Supporting communities living in poverty
"Poverty is being told that I have nothing to offer my child and believing it"
Creating a dialogue
ATD Fourth World has been involved for many years in supporting the efforts of people facing poverty and social exclusion to take an active role as members of their community and society more widely. Bringing people together from different
backgrounds.
"It's where we feel welcomed and respected and where we feel
that everyone has something to offer to others."
Cross-Community meetings bring together people
who are experts in poverty by experience - in local authority
housing estates, in Bed-and-Breakfast or other temporary
accommodation and among the Traveller community. Discussions
focus on the concerns and efforts of those in poverty and invite
a dialogue with statutory and non-governmental
organisations about what brings real change into people's lives.
“People need culture at the same time as they need bread, not before, not after, at the same time.”
Outreach creative workshops help develop
confidence and a sense of pride in isolated and excluded adults,
young people and children.
